Gwydir Industries Moree is a not-for-profit organisation committed to providing high-quality, person-centred support for people with disabilities. Located in the rural community of Moree, in northwest New South Wales, we have been proudly serving the region since 1963.
Our core mission is to create meaningful opportunities for individuals living with disability – supporting them to build confidence, develop life skills, engage in supported employment, and participate fully in their local community. We believe every person deserves to live with dignity, purpose, and inclusion, and we work daily to ensure those values are reflected in everything we do.
Our History
Gwydir Industries Moree has a proud legacy of community support and inclusion that dates back to its very beginnings. From the outset, our organisation was strongly backed by the people of Moree, with generous support from the Moree Plains Shire Council who donated land and from local farmers and graziers who contributed through wheat drives and cattle appeals to raise essential funds.
As the children who first attended our school grew older, so too did the vision of the organisation. In 1972, we took the next step in our journey by establishing a sheltered workshop, providing meaningful employment and purpose-built opportunities for people with disabilities.
On 18 September 1976, our current site on Gosport Street was officially opened, a major milestone in our commitment to inclusive local services.
Nationally, disability workshops like ours were partially funded under theFederal Government’s Handicapped Persons Act. This support evolved in June 1987with the introduction of the Disability Services Act 1986, which brought forward a stronger, more flexible framework for delivering support. The principles and objectives of this Act continue to shape how disability services are developed and delivered ensuring that all individuals are treated with dignity, choice, and respect.
